Tonite I had the Dogfish Head Raison D’Etre. The bottle states that it is “A deep mahogany ale brewed with Belgian beer sugars, green raisins & a sense of purpose.”

At first sip, I would say it tastes very, very sweet. Not as sweet as say a Leinie’s Berry Weiss, but more like a Chocolate porter. The aftertaste tastes very similair to a wine aftertaste, and I would have to attribute that to the green raisins. Colorwise, you can tell the dark Belgian sugars, really affected it. Take a look at how brown that ale is! It’s a great dessert type beer, and it’s a bit filling. I’m looking forward to some of this during the winter months here in the Chi, maybe with Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner.

Overall: Worth the $$$

Thanks for stumbling upon my little blog. I don’t have a name for it yet, but I can tell you what it’s about, and a little about me. For as long as I can remember I love beer. Sorry Mom, since my 21st birthday, I’ve loved beer. The taste, the smell, the color, the different varieties. It’s what strikes me as a perfect beverage. You can have it to cool off, to warm up, with a fancy dinner, or some snacks. It’s versatility makes it unique.

I also love Chicago. The Windy City, The Second City, or so they call us. Chicago is a unique gem of a city, where you have different neighborhoods right next to each other. With so much to offer, from our restaurants, to our lakefront, to our sports, It’s versatility makes it unique.

Being a Chicagoan, and a Beer lover, I have decided to chronicle my love of Beer and Chicago, by the only way I know how. Combining them! This blog is definitely going to have a skew to things related to Chicago, and naturally a focus on more local brewers and brew pubs. With that being said, there are only a few Chicago breweries and brew pubs, so I am going to be reviewing and commenting on beers from other cities and countries, as well.
